Faerykin Castle – Episode 1: The Séance

Riley, a sarcastic kid with a bad habit of following things they shouldn’t, stumbles into Faerykin Castle on Halloween night after being ditched by their friends for being weird while trick-or-treating. Inside, Riley meets Poppa Gnome, the castle’s bearded, half-senile caretaker who smells faintly of mildew and insists the wallpaper sometimes whispers. He introduces Riley to the Faerykins: tiny mischief-makers who live in the Faerykin Garden behind Faerykin Castle.
They are in the middle of their annual Samhain celebration, a big event concluding with a séance led by the flamboyantly spooky Madame Claire Voyant, a medium with eyeliner sharp enough to summon spirits on its own. With her over-the-top incantations and questionable theatrics, she promises to call forth the “Ancient Spirits of the Castle.” Unfortunately, all she’s able to summon is the ghost of Ian MacSkerrin, a spirit whose greatest ambition in life is to frighten people. But he’s only able to frighten Scare D. Katt.
At the height of the madness, Riley stops freaking out long enough to join in the inevitable musical number: “It’s Weird, but I Like Weird.” It’s a ghoulishly gleeful anthem about embracing haunted houses, oddballs, and the fact that sanity is overrated. By the end, Riley realizes Faerykin Castle might be crawling with trickster fae and semi-malevolent ghosts, but it’s also the first place that’s ever felt like home.
